Once upon a time, in a land of bouncy hills and sparkly streams, lived a very brave knight named Bennett. He was very brave! Everyone said so. When Bennett laughed, his belly bounced like the hills. "Haw haw haw," laughed Bennett.
One day, a dark cloud came to the kingdom. It wasn't a rain cloud. It was a Giggly Gloom! The Giggly Gloom made the happiest things very sad! The flowers drooped. The butterflies cried. Even the sun hid behind a smaller cloud and sobbed.
"This is terrible!" cried the King, who never cried. "My favorite jester, Jingle, won't even tell jokes!" Jingle sat in a corner, his bells silent. He kicked his feet and frowned.
"We have to do something!" shouted the Queen. "Someone get Bennett!" The Queen was very smart, but she was also very loud. Everyone knew that Bennett was the bravest knight. He would know what to do.
Bennett came riding up on his noble steed, Sir Neighs-a-lot. "What's all the commotion?" he asked. Bennett was always ready for an adventure, and he wasn't afraid of anything! Well, maybe spiders. But not Glooms!
"The Giggly Gloom is making everyone sad!" wailed the King. "Even my royal socks are soggy with tears!" Bennett looked around. It was true. Even the castle walls seemed to slump with sadness.
"Don't worry!" Bennett declared. "I will go and see this Giggly Gloom! I will find out why it's making everyone so sad!" Sir Neighs-a-lot neighed bravely, even though he felt a little bit nervous. He liked adventures too, but he also liked being happy.
So Bennett set off towards the Giggly Gloom. He wasn't sure what a Giggly Gloom looked like, but he knew it when he saw it. It was big and gray and jiggled when it chuckled. It was also surrounded by toys!
"Hello?" Bennett called out. "Mr. Giggly Gloom, sir? Why are you making everyone so sad?" The Giggly Gloom stopped jiggling and looked at Bennett. It made a small whimpering sound, like a lost puppy.
"I'm not trying to be sad," the Giggly Gloom sniffled. "I just want to play! But no one will play with me because I'm different." Bennett looked at all the toys. He saw a ball, a jump rope, and a funny hat.
Bennett smiled. "I'll play with you, Mr. Giggly Gloom!" he said. "Let's play catch!" And with that, Bennett picked up the ball and threw it. The Giggly Gloom caught it with a happy wiggle and giggled, "You GO it!"
Bennett and the Giggly Gloom played all afternoon. They played catch, they played jump rope, and Bennett even wore the funny hat. The Giggly Gloom laughed and laughed, and soon it wasn't a Giggly Gloom anymore. It was a Giggly Gleam!
The sun peeked out from behind the cloud and smiled. The flowers perked up. The butterflies fluttered. And Jingle the Jester even told a joke that made everyone laugh! Bennett, the brave knight, had saved the day by being kind and playing with someone new.
