Buddy sat by the window, watching the world outside. His tail didn't wag as it usually did.
Wag: to move a tail back and forth. 'Can you use wag in a sentence?'
The sun was shining, and kids were playing in the park, but Buddy was on his own.
Own: belonging to oneself. 'What is something special you own?'
He missed his siblings and the fun they had together at the farm where he was born.
Siblings: brothers or sisters. 'Do you have siblings? Tell me about them.'
Buddy started to feel a little braver. 'Maybe I can find my own fun,' he thought.
Braver: feeling or showing courage. 'Can you make a sentence about being braver?'
He explored the living room, sniffing every corner and finding toys he'd forgotten.
Explored: to investigate or travel through for discovery. 'Where would you like to explore?'
With each toy he found, Buddy felt his spirits lift. He even found a hidden treat.
Spirits: a person's mood or attitude. 'How do you keep your spirits up when you're alone?'
Buddy played tug-of-war with his favorite rope. He was doing just fine on his own.
Tug-of-war: a game in which two teams pull on opposite ends of a rope. 'Have you ever played tug-of-war?'
A noise at the door startled him. Buddy listened. The doorknob was turning!
Startled: to cause a feeling of sudden shock or alarm. 'Tell me about a time you were startled.'
It was Mom coming home! Buddy barked joyfully and rushed to greet her at the door.
Joyfully: feeling, expressing, or causing great pleasure and happiness. 'What makes you feel joyful?'
Mom noticed all the toys on the floor. 'Looks like you had quite the day!' she said.
Quite: to a very considerable degree; very. 'Can you use quite in a sentence?'
Buddy realized he could make his own adventures. He didn't feel lonely anymore.
Adventures: exciting or unusual experiences. 'What adventure would you like to go on?'
Now, Buddy waits eagerly for Mom's return, knowing they'll share stories of their day.
Eagerly: with keen interest or enthusiasm. 'What are you eagerly waiting for?'
