Liam felt excited as he put on his red backpack. Today was a special day. It was Liam’s first day at preschool. His mom gave him a big hug before he walked into his new classroom.
The classroom was bright and colorful with lots of toys. Ms. Jenny, Liam’s teacher, had a warm smile. 'Welcome, Liam!' she said. Liam smiled back, but felt a little shy.
Liam saw other children playing with blocks and painting. Some were laughing, some were running. It was very noisy. Liam didn’t know what to do.
He picked up some blocks, but another boy grabbed them. 'Hey, those are mine!' the boy shouted. Liam felt a rush of anger. He wanted to shout back.
Ms. Jenny saw Liam's face turning red. 'Liam, are you feeling angry?' she asked softly. Liam nodded. 'I can help,' she said.
Ms. Jenny taught Liam to take deep breaths. 'Breathe in like you are smelling a flower, and out like you are blowing out candles,' she explained. Liam tried and began to feel calmer.
When Liam calmed down, Ms. Jenny talked with him. 'We all feel angry sometimes. It’s okay. But we can’t hurt others. We can use words or ask for help,' she said gently.
Later, a girl bumped into Liam's arm by accident. Liam remembered what Ms. Jenny said. He felt upset but didn’t push her. Instead, he said, 'Please be careful.'
The girl said sorry, and they started to play together. They built a tall tower with colorful blocks. Liam was having fun. He didn’t feel angry anymore.
At story time, one of the children snatched the book from Ms. Jenny. Everyone was surprised. Liam remembered being angry earlier and understood how the child felt.
Ms. Jenny talked with the class about sharing and being kind. Liam listened carefully. He wanted to be a kind friend and share his toys too.
Before going home, Liam said goodbye to his new friends and Ms. Jenny. 'Today was a good day,' he thought happily as he held his mom’s hand. 'I can’t wait to come back.'
