Jenny had always wanted a little dog. Today was special because her mom said, 'We can get a puppy!'
They went to the animal shelter. It was loud. Dogs barked and wagged their tails.
One little brown dog did not bark. He had big, sad eyes. Jenny felt sorry for him.
When Jenny walked near, the little dog’s tail thumped. He looked hopeful.
She asked, 'Can we take this one?' Her mom nodded, and Jenny smiled big.
They named him Buddy. At home, Buddy was shy. He hid under the table.
Jenny sat by Buddy, whispering, 'It's okay.' Slowly, he came out to sniff her hand.
Day by day, Buddy got braver. They played fetch and ran in the yard together.
Jenny learned to care for Buddy. She gave him food, fresh water, and lots of hugs.
At night, Buddy slept by Jenny's bed. He felt safe and loved with his new friend.
Buddy learned tricks. He could sit, stay, and shake. Jenny was proud of him.
Jenny told everyone, 'Buddy is my first pup pal!' They were friends forever.
