Once upon a sunny morn, a clever crow was feeling worn. Hopping about, he loved to sing, 'Caw, caw, caw!' - a cheerful thing.
But oh dear me, his throat was dry with no water low or high. He cawed and squawked, he searched and flew, 'What on earth am I to do?'
Then lo and behold, he spied a jug, sitting snug near a bright green rug. 'Hurray for me!' the crow did shout. But soon, his happiness turned to doubt.
For deep within the jug's round belly, only a little water wobbled like jelly. The water was too low to reach, the crow sat down on the soft green beach.
'What shall I do,' thought the crow, 'I can't give up, I cannot go.' He pecked and pondered, scratched his head, how to drink, this thought he fed.
Then a bright idea came, oh what luck! He saw some pebbles amid the muck. 'Pebble by pebble, I shall drop,’ he said with a hopeful hop.
The pebbles plopped, then splish, then splash, the water rose up, oh what a dash! 'I'm so smart, as smart can be, water water, come to me!'
Drinking deeply, he felt so grand. He shouted, 'Crows, come take a stand! With wit and wisdom, we shall thrive, as clever crows, we stay alive!’
From that day on, the crow would boast, 'I'm the cleverest bird from coast to coast!’ His tale spread wide, far and near, making other birds clap and cheer.
So remember this, young girls and boys, with cleverness and patience, life brings joys. Like the crow with the jug, use your mind, and wondrous treasures you will find.
The end, but not really, for the clever crow's wisdom we'll keep, like a happy dream held in our hearts as we sleep.
'Caw, caw, caw,' the crow’s sweet refrain, reminding us all, to think with our brain.
