Once upon a time in a far-off land, there lived a donkey named Dilly. Dilly wasn't just any donkey; he had a mischievous sparkle in his eyes and a heart full of whimsy.
Every day, Dilly had to carry heavy loads through fields and forests. His master, Farmer Fred, loaded him up with hay, vegetables, and even big bags of salt.
Dilly's legs wobbled like jelly with the weight. 'Hee-haw!' he brayed, as he trudged along. But there was no rest for poor Dilly.
One sunny day, Farmer Fred loaded Dilly up with heavy pouches of salt. As they set off, Dilly noticed the river glistening in the distance.
An idea popped into Dilly's clever head. 'What if...' he thought, as he approached the river with a sly grin.
Splash! Into the river Dilly stepped, and as the water lapped over him, the salt began to dissolve. 'Hee-haw!' he laughed. His load was getting lighter.
Farmer Fred was not happy. 'Why is my salt all gone?' he grumbled. He lost a lot of money that day, but Dilly was quite pleased with himself.
The next day, Farmer Fred tried a new trick. He loaded Dilly with big bundles of clothes. Dilly thought it was just another easy day.
But oh, what a surprise! As Dilly stepped into the river, the clothes soaked up the water. 'Oh, no!' he brayed. The clothes became heavy as stones.
Poor Dilly struggled and wobbled. 'Hee-haw! This is too much!' he sobbed. Farmer Fred looked back with a knowing smile. 'That's better,' he said.
Dilly learned his lesson. From that day on, he worked hard and happily, but always with a twinkle of mischief in his eye, for Dilly was a clever donkey, after all.
The moral of the story is to always be a nice person while working. Remember, cleverness is good, but kindness is better.
