One sunny morning, Sam was sitting at the kitchen table reading the newspaper. His wife, Lily, was making pancakes. The birds were chirping outside.
Sam murmured something as he read. Lily, busy with the pancakes, thought she heard Sam say, 'These pancakes look bad'.
Lily felt upset. She turned to Sam with a frown. 'Why would you say that? I worked hard on these pancakes!' she exclaimed.
Sam looked up, surprised. 'I didn't say anything about the pancakes, Lily! I said this news is sad.' He showed her the article.
Lily's frown slowly turned into a look of embarrassment. 'Oh! I'm sorry, Sam. I thought you were criticizing my cooking.'
Sam chuckled. 'Your pancakes are awesome, Lily. I’d never think that!' He took a bite to prove it.
Lily smiled and shook her head. 'I can't believe I got so upset over nothing. Let's enjoy our breakfast.'
They ate their pancakes and read the newspaper together, chatting about the articles.
Afterward, they cleaned up. Lily gave Sam a small hug. 'Thanks for being patient with me,' she said softly.
Sam hugged her back. 'We all have those moments, Lily. What’s important is we talk about it.'
Lily nodded, feeling lucky to have Sam. They promised to always listen to each other carefully.
From then on, they paid more attention when the other was speaking, making sure no more misunderstandings happened over breakfast.
