Benny lived in a bouncy house. Not really, but it felt like it! His dad was a bouncy house blower-upper, which is a very bouncy job indeed. One day, Benny’s dad said, “Let’s bounce to the town, Benny! We need buttons!”
Benny scratched his head. “Buttons? Why do we need buttons, Dad?” “Why, to button up our bouncy house, of course! It needs three more buttons to be extra bouncy!” Dad chuckled. “Come on, let’s go!”
So they hopped in their car, which wasn’t nearly as bouncy as a bouncy house, and drove to town. The town was full of silly sights! A giraffe wearing a necktie, a cloud shaped like a pancake… but no buttons.
They went to the bakery first. The baker greeted them with a floury “Hello!” “We’re looking for buttons,” Benny said. “Big, bouncy buttons!” “Hmm, buttons… We use sprinkles here, not buttons!” the baker laughed. “But try the toy shop down the street!”
The toy shop was a wonderland of teddy bears and train sets. Benny wanted to stay and play, but they had a button mission! “Excuse me, sir,” Dad asked a toy soldier. “Do you know where we can find buttons?”
The toy soldier stood up straight. “Buttons? Our buttons are for show, not for sewing! But… two blocks east, you’ll find a shop full of bows! Maybe they have buttons, too! ”
They thanked the soldier and walked two blocks east. And what did they see? A shop bursting with bows! Big bows, small bows, sparkly bows, and… buttons! “Look, Dad! Buttons!” Benny cried.
There were buttons of every color and size. Benny counted seven red buttons, three blue buttons, and four yellow buttons. “How many buttons are there in total?” Dad asked. Benny thought hard. “Seven plus three is ten… and ten plus four is fourteen! Fourteen buttons!”
“That’s amazing, Benny!” Dad said proudly. They found three perfect buttons for their bouncy house. As they were leaving, Benny noticed a little girl crying. “What’s wrong?” Benny asked.
“I lost my favorite button,” she sniffled, showing them a tiny button shaped like a ladybug. “We can help you find it!” Benny said. They looked high and low, under the counters and behind the shelves. And then, Benny spotted it!
“Here it is!” Benny cried, picking up the button. The little girl’s face lit up. Benny and his dad left the shop, their hearts full of joy. Even though they went on a button adventure, they found something even better than buttons: new friends!
As they drove home, Benny bounced in his seat, excited to tell everyone about his adventure. He learned that sometimes, the best discoveries happen when you’re not even looking for them!
