Whiskers the cat woke up with a scowl, he felt as grumpy as a thunderous growl. School was starting, and he wished he could snooze, ‘Why must I go to school if I constantly lose?’
Tip-tap went his paws on the floor, off to school he went, with a roar! Down the street, past the hats that flop, until he reached the red-brick schooltop.
In class, Whiskers sat with a big angry pout, ‘I want to be home!’ he wanted to shout. Miss Fiddle the frog taught math with flair, but Whiskers didn’t seem to care.
Then came Art with crayons and hues, ‘Maybe I’ll draw some brilliant blues.’ But alas, Whiskers huffed with spite, ‘These crayons just don’t sit right!’
Music class started with lyric and song, ‘I like to sing along—except when things go wrong!’ Off beat and off key, he made a mad sound, like a kazoo that was chasing around.
Lunch time! With a grumble and growl, ‘I want my snacks delivered by owl!’ he scowled. But when he opened his lunch, there was a surprise, ‘Cheesy mice pies!’ and his eyes grew wide.
The pie was delicious, so warm and tasty, ‘Maybe I was wrong to be so hasty.’ His frown flipped around into a circular grin, ‘Perhaps I’ll give school one more spin.’
Back to class, with a skip and a hop, ‘I’ll make today fun, I’ll go over the top!’ In Science, he made fizzy potions that fizzed, a magic show that made everyone whizzed.
Recess time came, with slides and swings, ‘I’ll show everyone that I am king!’ Whiskers climbed to the tip-top of the slide, sliding down with a laugh, feeling full of pride.
At home time, his friends gave him a cheer, ‘We’re so glad you came this year!’ Whiskers beamed from ear to ear, no longer the cat full of glare and sneer.
As he walked back home, with a saunter and a sway, he thought, ‘Maybe I’ll go to school every day!’ The sky turned orange with the setting sun, and Whiskers purred, knowing school could be fun.
And so, Whiskers learned that school is a blast, when you give it your all, you’ll have a great cast. To find the happiness in every little thing, just try with a purr and a little swing.
